It was a very nice day today, hot and sunny and a few gifts to boot. And if it had snowed? Well, then it just would have been a wonderful Christmas day...Oh, I guess the white sands could count as snow.
We headed North toward Spencer Beach but didn't make it that far. Stopped by a very nice resort and hit the public access to the beach. Good choice! Warm water, nice sand and we all got to relax again. We walked a little down the beach and watched quite a few turtles playing in the water. A few of us tried to snorkel but couldn't see each other even 2' away...then I yelled when I looked down and saw coral right in my face it was enough that Carol started to swim quickly away at my “ghost” and then Holden yelled next when he came upon it without any warning. You could say we were a little spooked not being able to see anything farther than our hands could reach. How sad are we?
Headed back to the house where we had a variety of food to feed all of us, leftovers of different things. Then sat in the sun by the pool and just talked and laughed a bit. Very nice. Oh, and we turned on the water heater so we could hopefully get some warm showers today. It's usually heated by solar and well...just has not provided enough warm water even. Jo is even looking forward to her "hot"..."LONGGGGGGG" shower at home. Me too!
We then all tried to eat dinner together at a pasta place. Didn't work out to well since our group was 14 and it was Christmas. Kids did a great job being good but we all waited over an hour for our meals...over priced and wasn't that god. I still have not eaten. Cole got to tired and when I was holding him trying to talk him into staying awake and eating, he peed all over himself and me and the span between where we were standing and the bathroom. Needless to say, loaded up in the van with togo boxes and headed home. Maybe I will eat later...maybe not.
Hope you enjoyed our trip. It's been fun writing and adding to the blog. Flight home tomorrow, thinking we will all sleep quite a bit on the planes.

Christmas Eve

Just a quick note and a couple photos from Lisa's camera.
Quiet day, did a little adult shopping while the kids played at the house. The down time was/is good for them. Watched a little football and now most of the house is at the beach again to do a little snorkeling in this cool weather we have today...I think it's around 70 only. Four of us stayed back including Jo who is still napping.
Went to dinner last night as a family, pizza was the meal and it was good. The pitcher of beer was fun, it was a large tube with a tap at the bottom that was set in the middle of our table. Made me smile even thought I don't drink beer. I really enjoy eating outside as well...I sure like how it feels in the warm weather.
Dan, Carol, Jill and I went back to that restaurant for drinks after the kids went to sleep. It was an over due night out for the four of us I think. I had a "Dirty Bastard" and it was darn yummy! Not as good as my Donkey Balls, but still good.
Everyone picked up a small gift for the kids so they should have a nice Christmas morning. Mostly Hawaii stuff and then a few things that have nothing to do with the island.
Jill and I bought some Crocs...shoes that are plastic/soft with lots of holes. Like them and think they will be a nice flight shoe. Easy off and on.

R&R in Hawaii? - Day 8

Spent Wednesday at Spencer Beach, north of us. It was our first time at a “white” sandy beach and it was well worth the drive. The kids and adults needed a free day to play and relax. The beach was calm enough that the kids got to play in the water without having to be watched with eagle eyes. In turn the adults could play and relax as well. It was a clear enough day to see Maui from there. Neat. Nice day! We then drove to the Northern most part of the island, stopping to see Kamehameha, then driving until we could drive no longer.
Thursday we headed to Hilo and some water falls. They were fun to see but really thought we would get to actually walk up to them and feel the water falling. Oh well. Driving around the island really reminds me a lot of Oregon. Oh, the plants are different but the topography really feels very similar. Kind of a home like feel which has been neat for me.
Thursday we drove south to the volcano, for me that was the best trip! We were told it would be colder because of the elevation but it was still warm. The view from the top was breathtaking and even better at the bottom. The hike was similar to hiking Crater Lake, a few turn backs and long, but sure worth the trip. We didn't walk the whole base but got to feel some of the heat of the volcano and that was really neat. Carried the kids back out, which made them happy. Very tired at this point I really enjoyed hiking and sight seeing!
We drove the rest of the way around the volcano, stopping to see other sites and walk through the steam vents....HOT....hot.....HOT! So much to see and really not enough time to do it all in a relaxing way. We made it down to the ocean so see the petroglyph's, timing it to see the glow of the lava at night. Timing was good but the rain came and we could not see anything other than the steam plume! And when it rains...well...it RAINS! Again...are we really not in Oregon? :O)
Today (Friday) is a day of rest...sort of. Going to hit some stores and just walk around a bit, otherwise we will hang out at the house. We wanted to sleep in today too...still up at 6am...sheesh...no quiet time for us here. haha
